The Goslings

RSCN7135This week was an amazing time of biking and walking on the Tomifobia Nature Trail. Red wing blackbirds and yellow warblers flew and sang in tune with the hidden frogs, while the silent turtles bathed in the sun. They almost seemed to enjoy being flattered by my admiration of them, yet at any moment they’d plop themselves into the pond as if to say ‘good bye!’

The sunshine was warm and the smell of new life was in the air. I heard so many new sounds I have not yet identified. I feel like such a beginner, but maybe you can enjoy watching me grow in my wisdom of the wild as I record my findings and portray my love of nature through my paintings, drawings and writings.

The other day I was riding my bike with my husband. We were now returning towards our home. We had seen many geese and common birds so at first glance I ignored the two Canada Geese by the trail. Then something made me turn my head.

RSCN6979Low and behold, there were not just two geese, but a whole family of goslings! It was the most adorable sight. Quickly I came to a halt and grabbed my camera to take pictures, but the camera told me I was out of battery power.

“NO! It couldn’t be,” I said out loud. I quickly removed the batteries as I prayed and returned them to their proper slots. The camera flickered to life and I was able to take several more shots of the beautiful family of geese. It was a good reminder to always carry extra batteries.

I’m still waiting to see the great blue heron that was in our area last year. Almost everyday I search for some sign that he has returned. Do they change spots year after year? Perhaps this year I won’t see him. I’ll be sure to let you know when and if he returns to this neck of the woods.
