About Debra
Debra Mosher Roy formally studied art, obtaining a Fine Arts DEC, at Champlain College in Lennoxville, Quebec. She continued her fine arts studies at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick.
Debra’s painting style mainly involves using a palette knife and thick white acrylic paint as her base. She then introduces colour, working quickly to sculpt the foundation of her painting. As the paint dries, she uses the relief to create depth and space, continuing to work with both knife and brush to refine the details. Debra sometimes paints on the spot (plein air) to capture the feeling of the moment. During the month of July, Debra painted one piece a day(except Sundays) in plein air style for a total of twenty seven paintings. The purpose of her work is to motivate others to observe and appreciate life and interactions with nature.
Debra has exhibited her work at the Fitch Bay/Georgeville Art Festival, Symposium de l’espoir in Montreal, Studio Georgevile, the Musée Beaulne, and various other local venues. In 2016, Debra combined her love for nature, photography, and drawing into two adult colouring books titled Colour Our World: Wildlife and Colour Our World: Nature. The book consists of forty drawings inspired by photographs of animals in the Eastern Townships (L’Estrie) region of Quebec.
Another way that Debra expresses her passion for art is by teaching classes to budding artists and children. These classes provide a relaxing environment for students of all abilities to learn and develop their artistic style at their own level. Every session of art classes ends with a one-hour vernissage featuring the art of students from all Debra’s classes. She began a community art group called Art Ayer’s Cliff and is a member of Coatic’Art. She is also involved with several online art communities.
Debra is married with three adult children and lives in the picturesque Eastern Townships (L’Estrie).
